If a therapy practice’s Google Business Profile is suspended or disabled, first identify the restriction and the policy it cites, correct inaccurate or ineligible information, prepare business evidence, and appeal through Google’s appeals tool, where an appeal can be submitted only once. Do not create another profile for the same business. Reinstatement is not guaranteed.1,2

A missing profile, verification request, rejected edit, ownership problem, review-removal decision, and suspension are different situations. Google’s appeals page gives each its own route.2 Choose the process that matches the actual message rather than submitting a generic “restore my listing” request.

Key takeaways

  • Start in Google’s appeals tool: it shows the decision’s date, its reason, the policy and whether it can be appealed.1
  • Correct the cause first, such as unnecessary words in the name, a P.O. box, a business that is not at the address it claims, or an account restricted for repeated violations.3,4
  • Evidence is business evidence (registration, a business license, tax certificates, utility bills) with the name and address matching the profile, never patient records.2
  • An appeal can be submitted only once: attach the evidence before you submit, and do not appeal the same issue again before a decision.2
  • Do not create a new profile for the same business; appeal decisions can take up to five business days.1,2
  • No agency decides the appeal; keep the practice as the profile’s owner and add an agency as a manager.5,6

How do you know if your Google Business Profile is suspended?

Google’s appeals tool shows it: signed in with the account linked to the profile, the tool lists each decision with its date, its reason, a link to the policy, and whether it can be appealed.1 Preserve the notice, profile identifier, associated authorized account, decision date, stated policy, and current status. Verify that the affected record is the actual practice/location. Avoid publishing account details or business documents in a public support thread.

Check whether the problem concerns the profile itself, access, an individual content item, or an edit. A profile that is not visible in one manual search may have another explanation. Do not assert a suspension without the actual evidence.

When Google removes a profile, the public can’t go to it and its owner and managers can’t act on it.1 A Google account restricted for a pattern of violations suspends every profile it manages.4 A restriction for fake reviews is a different action: Google may stop new reviews for a time, unpublish existing ones or show a warning, and tells the owner by email when it plans to.7

Why do therapy practices’ Google Business Profiles get suspended?

Google suspends or disables profiles that don’t follow its guidelines. Its pages name the causes a practice can check: unnecessary information in the business name, a P.O. box address, a business that doesn’t exist at the location it claims, an account restricted for a pattern of violations, and a profile created through another Google product whose account was restricted.3,4

Check the business name, real location, service model, address display, categories, website, contact route, and duplicate records. Use the category guide, identity audit, and in-home service-area guide for focused questions.

A therapy license supports professional status but does not by itself establish Google profile eligibility. A rented mailing address the practice does not operate from is not an eligible location.8 A remote-only practice should not submit fabricated evidence of in-person care.

What evidence helps a suspended Google Business Profile appeal?

Google’s current appeals guidance identifies official registration, business license, tax certificates, and certain business utility records as possible supporting evidence.2 It asks that the business name and address align with the profile details.

Assemble the documents that genuinely support your case and explain legitimate differences instead of altering records. Include only appropriate business evidence; patient charts, clinical photographs, appointment lists, diagnoses, and testimonials are not a routine way to prove business eligibility.

Use a controlled folder with document type, date, relevant fact supported, sensitive fields requiring appropriate handling, and submission owner. Do not manufacture signage, edit document dates, or misrepresent the site to make the evidence look stronger.

How do you appeal a suspended Google Business Profile?

For a business outside the UK and the European Economic Area, a suspended or disabled profile is appealed in the Google Business Profile appeals tool: sign in to the account linked to the profile, select the profile and the decision, attach any supporting evidence, add an explanation, and submit. Rejected edits, media and other content restrictions go through Google’s contact form instead, and a review-removal decision through the reviews management tool.2 If the Google account itself is restricted, appeal the account first on its My accounts page, then the profile.1

Google recommends preparing documents before you start, and an appeal can be submitted only once: the submit step confirms that all supporting evidence is attached.2 Read the prompts the tool shows for your decision rather than instructions copied from an older page, and appeal content decisions only after the profile is reinstated, since Google requires that order.

What should a suspended profile appeal explanation say?

State the facts the decision turns on: what the profile represents, the decision and policy, what was corrected, and which documents support it. Use this adaptable structure:

Profile [identifier] represents [actual practice and location/model]. The decision dated [date] cites [policy]. We reviewed [specific information] and corrected [factual change, if applicable]. The attached [actual document types] support [relevant identity/location facts]. We request review of the restriction under the current process. We have not created a duplicate profile for this business.

Keep the explanation focused on the policy question. A practice’s need for referrals or a promise that an agency can “get it reinstated” does not establish eligibility. Do not imply that past verification guarantees every current business representation is compliant.

How long does a Google Business Profile appeal take?

Google says appeal reviews and decisions can take up to five business days, and it sends the decision by email.2 Record the submission date, official channel, case reference, exact explanation, evidence supplied, and stated next steps. Use the documented status check: the appeals tool shows an appeal as submitted, approved, not approved, can’t be appealed, or eligible for appeal.2 Follow any available subsequent review process only when appropriate to the actual decision; do not submit repeated competing requests because no immediate response has arrived. If a reinstatement request is denied, Google may allow an additional review, with evidence that was not in the original appeal.1

Do not promise a fixed restoration date to staff or patients. Official processing guidance can change and does not guarantee the outcome of a particular case.

How do patients reach the practice while its profile is suspended?

Ensure the practice website, phone, approved contact channel, and relevant directory information remain accurate. Communicate directly with scheduled patients through the appropriate clinical/administrative system if the restriction affects their access. A search-profile issue does not automatically mean appointments are canceled.

For multi-location organizations, identify which location is affected and avoid changing unaffected locations unnecessarily. The name, address and phone audit gives each location a record and an update owner. An organization appealing more than 10 suspended locations can ask for bulk reinstatement in the appeals tool, with a spreadsheet of the profile IDs and the supporting documents.2

Directory listings keep working while a Google profile is restricted, so check that the practice’s DrSensory listing and other directory entries carry the current phone and website.

Can an agency get a suspended Google Business Profile reinstated?

No agency can decide the outcome: Google reviews the appeal, and an agency that manages the profile is bound by Google’s rules for authorized representatives. Those rules say it must never claim a profile without the owner’s express consent or make false, misleading or unrealistic claims, must transfer ownership to the owner immediately on request, and should encourage the owner to own the profile and add the agency as a manager; breaking them can suspend the profile or the account.5 A manager has mostly the same access as an owner but can’t add or remove users or remove the profile.6 The business should retain appropriate ownership and understand what a vendor is doing. Review proposed edits and evidence before authorizing submissions. Do not give a vendor permission to invent a location, keyword-stuff the name, or acquire fake reviews to “fix” the profile.

Ask for a clear account of the observed restriction, applicable policy, factual corrections, evidence, official submission, and status. A guarantee of reinstatement or a claimed special relationship with Google needs skepticism; the vendor cannot determine Google’s decision. Google’s own advice: if someone claims to work for Google, ask for their name and an email from their “@google.com” address.9

What happens after Google approves or denies a suspension appeal?

If reinstated, verify the public facts and access route: Google reinstates both the profile and its owners and managers, and problems with a reinstated profile go to Google Business Profile Help.1 Content decisions, such as a rejected edit, can be appealed once the profile is reinstated.2 Record any conditions or outstanding issues. If not approved, read the reason and use only the appropriate available official options. If the business is not eligible, focus on accurate website and directory discovery rather than a duplicate map profile.

Update the internal identity record so the same inaccurate information is not reintroduced by an automated listing tool or another manager.

What is the first step when your Google Business Profile is suspended?

Identify the actual restriction and prepare a factual evidence packet before submitting. If the profile has a different problem, such as access, verification or a duplicate, the troubleshooting guide sorts out which route applies.

Frequently asked questions

Should I make a replacement profile immediately?

No. Google’s appeal instructions say not to create a new Business Profile for the same business.1

Does a professional license guarantee reinstatement?

No. Professional authority and platform business eligibility are separate.

Should patient records be submitted as evidence?

No. Google’s examples of supporting evidence are business documents, such as an official business registration, a business license, tax certificates and utility bills, with the business name and address matching the profile.2 Patient information does not prove business eligibility.

Can I add evidence after submitting an appeal?

Attach it before you submit. Google recommends preparing documents first, an appeal can be submitted only once, and the submit step confirms that all supporting evidence is attached; if a reinstatement request is denied, Google may allow an additional review with evidence the first appeal did not include.1,2
